Wardrobe renovations #1

If your closet is anything like mine, there is quit a few items that aren't worn. Not because I don't like them, but because I don't exactly like how they fit. Maybe I don't like the length of the dress, or the fit of the t-shirt, or maybe the zipper is broke, or there is a hole in jeans. It happens. Well, the exciting news is you could get a whole lot more wear out of those clothes if there were a few simple adjustments. That is what made me decide to be this blog series. Once a week I am going to try to post a "wardrobe renovation." It will be a basic how to to fix a few of these clothing frustrations :) Also, feel free to comment if you have specific wardrobe questions, either myself or one of your fellow readers will surely be able to answer!

So today, Replacing a Broken Zipper!
I do a lot of alterations for people, it can be from altering a prom dress to sewing on a button. Today I am replacing a zipper in a pair of white pants.

1.) First you need to take the old zipper out. Having a pair of seam rippers is a great tool for this project. You basically start at the top and start removing the seam. This will loosen the zipper so that you can get it out completely.
2.) If yo have the appropiate length of zipper you can go ahead and sew that in. Just be sure that you know how the zipper was taken out so that you can back track your steps in putting the new zipper back in. Each pair of pants is slightly different on how the zipper is sewn in.
3.) Make sure that all your seams are straight and that your zipper is secure and zips up and down freely.

That's it! New Zipper, you saved the life of a pair of pants!
